Hi, I am Jay, mother of one gorgeous boy, a wife and a former avid adventurer. I hold a bachelor’s degree in art history. While I was at university, I met my now husband who had frequent work arrangements abroad, therefore I was introduced to a new lifestyle of constantly having to live out of my suitcase. When I finished university, I moved to Ghent, Belgium to live with my husband. There I started learning Dutch and enrolled in cooking and nutrition lessons. The travel didn’t stop there, however. Belgium did become our base, but we were constantly on the move and exploring new places around the world. The list includes but is not limited to: the Greek islands, California, Florida, Tunisia, Denmark, Ukraine, Germany, France and many more European countries. Later I felt like I needed a change, far from the rainy Ghent, so I started working on a cruise ship and frequently visiting the Eastern and Western Caribbean as well as Northern and Mediterranean Europe.
Sea sickness, fever, food poisoning, diarrhea etc. can all turn your holiday into a nightmare as I have experienced many more times than I’d like. For example, I will never forget my first time in New York, when instead of using my short time there to explore the Big Apple, I was stuck inside a McDonald’s toilet for several hours. More on this and other “interesting” experiences in the posts to come… The good news is that all obstacles you face while traveling are avoidable if you have the appropriate knowledge and hence preparation.
To summarize, while it’s beautiful to frequently explore new destinations and get to know different cultures, I have learned the hard way that constant travel can be very pressuring both physically and mentally and that strong self-discipline is required to alleviate this pressure. This blog tries to help readers achieve said self-discipline through short practical tips I learned while on the go.
